Participants- how to get involved!

This post is for the young people who have been invited to participate in the Dreamscape project! Howdy y'all!

Here's a little info about this project and how you can join in!

What is the Dreamscape Project?
It’s an opportunity for you to work with a New Zealand artist and to be involved in an international art project. It’s a crazy art experiment. And it’s a fun way to raise money for charity.

In 2012 artist Vivien Masters is going to create 5 huge paintings for 5 children’s healthcare organisations, auction them off and give 100% of the proceeds to charity. To do this, she needs you to take part in an art experiment! Vivien wants to see what happens when she lets children and teenagers decide what she paints. For this project she will only paint what you tell her too. The only limit is your imagination! The artist will work in black and white, and when the painting is ready it will be handed over to the organisation for you and the other young people there to colour with paints, pencils and whatever else you like!

In April and May 2012 the Dreamscape Project will work with Ronald McDonald House Charities and CanTeen in Auckland. In June and July 2012 Vivien will visit the U.S. to work with 3 children’s healthcare facilities in the New York area. Participants will be able to ‘meet’ each other through the Dreamscape Facebook page. This may be a great opportunity for kiwi kids to get a pen pal in New York!

How do I join in?
Vivien needs your ideas! She needs your help and your imagination to come up with amazing ideas to put inside the paintings. She will work with each organisation separately, gathering up all of the ideas and transforming them into 5 gigantic paintings!
What kind of ideas do I need?
Anything goes! Take your time day dreaming about ideas. Use your imagination. Draw. Talk to your family and friends about it. Challenge yourself to come up with a few different ideas, and then pick one or two that are your favourites.

Your idea could be about a person or something that is special to you
Your idea could be silly, or it could be serious
Your idea could be about your favourite book or movie
Your idea could be beautiful and pretty, or it could be yucky and smelly!
Your idea could be about a moment in your life that was important
Your idea could be mysterious, and make sense only to you!
Your idea could be about someone you look up to
Your idea could be something completely made-up from your imagination!

Progress pictures of the artworks being made will be regularly updated on the Dreamscape project’s Facebook page so you can follow the magic as it happens!

How will I get my ideas to the artist?
Have you thought of something awesome that could go in one of the paintings? Maybe you’ve thought of a few things? Great! Write your ideas down. Try and describe them as well as you can. If describing them is too hard, do a little drawing of your idea instead! If you would like to explain why you chose what you did that would be fantastic too!

Email your idea(s) &/or drawings to info@thedreamscapeproject.org

Please provide your first name and age (inclusion of family name is optional for privacy reasons) so that you can be credited as an artist once the project is complete!  Once the final artwork has been created you’ll receive a photograph of your idea in the final artwork, and have your name listed as one of the artists that participated in the project on the Dreamscape website.

A note for parents:
The Dreamscape Project is an international non-profit collaborative youth art project for seriously ill and/or disabled children and young adults. The privacy of those participating is taken very seriously, and names will only be published with the written consent of their parent or guardian. If you would prefer for your child to participate anonymously that is fine.
